Siam Country Club Pattaya's Old Course is one of the most storied layouts in Southeast Asian golf. Originally opened in 1971 and designed by Japanese architect Ichisuke Izumi, the course was completely rebuilt between 2006 and 2007 by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley of Schmidt-Curley Design — a transformation that elevated it from a modest regional facility to a world-class tournament venue. The rebuilt course has hosted the Honda LPGA Thailand championship every year since 2006, bringing the world's best female golfers to Pattaya. With 101 bunkers, a par-72 layout measuring 7,162 yards from the tips, and some of the fastest greens in Thailand, the Old Course sets a high technical standard. Green fees are at the premium end for the Pattaya region, befitting its reputation.

Layout & playing experience

The 18-hole layout is defined by relentless strategic challenge. Water features on the majority of holes, and the course's 101 sand bunkers are positioned to penalise errant drives and short-sided approaches in equal measure. Schmidt and Curley's renovation introduced tighter angles, more pronounced green contours, and deeper bunkering than the original Izumi design, pushing the course firmly into championship territory. The back nine is widely considered the stronger half, with several consecutive holes playing over or alongside water that rewards controlled aggression rather than brute force. The caddies are consistently well-reviewed — they know the course intimately and are invaluable on the quick, sloping greens. Golf carts at the Old Course are driven by caddies, which keeps pace of play efficient. Club rental is available in the pro shop for golfers who arrive without their own equipment.

Tips & what to know before you go

Book at least a week in advance for weekend tee times — the Old Course fills quickly, particularly during the November–February cool season when demand from visiting golfers peaks. Aim for a weekday morning tee time to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat and to play in the company of fewer groups. The greens run fast; spend time on the practice putting green before teeing off. The 101 bunkers are well-raked but punishing — a straight tee shot is more important than a long one. Twilight rates (approximately 1,000 THB) offer the best-value way to experience the course, usually available from around 14:00–15:00 depending on the season.
