Springfield Royal Country Club carries the distinction of being one of only a handful of Jack Nicklaus-designed courses in Thailand. The original 18-hole layout opened in 1993 in Cha-am, Phetchaburi, and a third nine was added in 2005 to bring the complex to 27 holes. Springfield has been ranked in the top 10 best golf courses in Thailand by Golf Digest, a recognition that reflects both the quality of the Nicklaus design and the course's consistent maintenance. The layout is set within the Springfield Resort complex, which includes hotel accommodation, restaurants, a spa, and swimming pools, making it a viable base for a multi-day golf trip. At 1,600 THB walking or 2,400 THB with a cart (caddie compulsory at 350 THB), Springfield sits in the mid-range of Hua Hin area pricing, offering genuine championship credentials at an accessible price point.

Layout & playing experience
Nicklaus's design at Springfield makes excellent use of the terrain north of Hua Hin, which transitions from flat coastal plains to gently rolling hillside as you move inland toward the Tenasserim mountain range. The course features five sets of tees, making it accessible for a wide range of handicaps while offering a stern test from the championship markers. The 27 holes are divided into three named nines — A, B, and C — that can be combined in any pairing for an 18-hole round. The design hallmarks of the Nicklaus style are evident throughout: generous fairway landing zones that tighten on approach, strategically positioned water hazards that reward precise shot-making, and large, contoured putting surfaces that require careful reading. The mountain backdrop creates a scenic setting distinct from the more coastal layouts in the region. The third nine added in 2005 is generally considered the most challenging of the three loops, with tighter fairways and more demanding approach angles. Golf Academy facilities are available for players wanting coaching before or after their round.
Tips & what to know before you go
Springfield's location in Cha-am, approximately 30 minutes north of central Hua Hin, makes it a natural pairing with Palm Hills Golf Club, which is nearby. Plan transfers accordingly if combining the two courses in one trip. The Nicklaus-designed layout rewards course management rather than power — take note of caddie advice on club selection and green reading, as the large putting surfaces can be deceptive in their slope. Cha-am is slightly more exposed to coastal breezes than courses further inland; factor wind direction into club selection on the more open holes. The twilight rate (1,250 THB from 14:00) offers excellent value but leaves limited time to complete a full 18 holes comfortably in daylight; arrive no later than 13:45. During the golf festival periods (typically August–September), the course offers promotional rates.
