The Royal Golf & Country Club occupies a prime position in Samut Prakan province — the closest full-length championship layout to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, a fact that makes it enormously popular with touring golfers on tight itineraries. Opened in 1993 and designed by Japanese architect Chohei Miyazawa, the course stretches to 7,123 yards from the back tees in a classic parkland setting. The Royal Golf enjoys a strong reputation among Bangkok's golfing community: conditioning is reliable, the caddies are experienced, and the pace of play is well managed. While it does not have the prestige cachet of Thailand's most exclusive clubs, it delivers honest, quality golf at competitive prices. It particularly suits mid-to-high handicappers visiting Bangkok who want a full championship round without the logistics of travelling far from the city.

Layout & playing experience

Miyazawa's design unfolds across flat, park-like terrain intersected by lakes and mature trees that provide both aesthetic framing and strategic challenge. The layout makes extensive use of water hazards — reflecting the Japanese design school's appreciation for precise carries and risk/reward decisions — and the greens are typically well-bunkered. At 7,123 yards, the course plays long from the championship tees, but sensible tee selection makes it accessible at 6,232 yards (club tees) or 5,487 yards (forward tees). Fairways are generous enough to encourage bold driving but the approach areas tighten considerably, demanding accurate iron play. Several holes require golfers to negotiate water on both the drive and the approach, making course management a significant part of the challenge. The par-4 holes are consistently the most demanding, with a blend of left and right-turning doglegs that reward local knowledge. Greens roll at a medium pace and hold well for mid-irons. The conditioning of fairways and greens is generally above average for the Bangkok-area market.

Tips & what to know before you go

The Royal Golf is one of the easiest Bangkok courses to access from Suvarnabhumi Airport — only 10 minutes away — making it ideal for either an arrival-day warm-up or a post-round departure. Book tee times at least 2–3 days in advance for weekdays and 5–7 days for weekends, as the course is consistently busy. Fees are itemized: green fee 3,500 THB weekday / 4,500 THB weekend, plus caddie 400 THB and cart 850 THB — budget approximately 4,750–5,750 THB total per round. Carts are compulsory on weekends and public holidays. Standard collared-shirt dress code applies. Arrive early to warm up on the practice range. The Sukhumvit hotel corridor is approximately 35 minutes away; shared transfer services are available through most Bangkok golf tour operators.
