Aquella Golf & Country Club is one of Thailand's newest championship courses, opened in 2021 on a spectacular site at Thai Muang Beach in Phang Nga province — approximately 40 minutes north of Phuket International Airport along the Andaman coastline. The course was built on the land of the former Thai Muang Beach Golf & Marina and represents a near-total redesign: Australian firm Pacific Coast Design (Paul Reeves and Phil Ryan) retained only about 30% of the original land, constructing a modern 18-hole, par-72 layout of over 7,000 yards with sand-based fairways and Platinum Paspalum grass throughout. The result is a year-round course with excellent drainage that holds its surface quality well into the wet season. Aquella sits within a broader resort development that includes villas, a beach club, tennis courts, a fitness centre, and water sports — making it one of the most comprehensively equipped golf and leisure destinations in southern Thailand. The 11th hole, a 186-yard par-three with views across the Andaman Sea, is the signature hole.

Layout & playing experience
At 7,019 yards from the championship tees, Aquella is a long course by Thai standards. The par-72 layout was designed with sand-based construction throughout — fairways, greens, and tees all use Platinum Paspalum grass, a species chosen for its tolerance of heat, salt air, and heavy rain. The result is firm, fast turf that rewards controlled ball flight and accurate iron play over the brute length approach that some long-course designs allow. Water features on several holes, and the coastal terrain means the Andaman Sea is visible from multiple vantage points, most dramatically on the par-three 11th, where the green is framed against open sea. The course plays through a mix of open coastal land and more enclosed sections near the resort villas, giving the round variety in scale and character. Caddies and carts are both compulsory; individual carts are required (one golfer per cart). The course opened in 2021 so the greens and fairways are still maturing to their full character — but the quality of the surfaces from day one has been noted by reviewers as above the standard for a course of this age.
Tips & what to know before you go
Aquella is located north of Phuket, making it most practical for golfers based in northern Phuket (Khao Lak, Thai Muang area) or those doing a dedicated Phang Nga golf day from Phuket. The drive from Patong is around 70–80 minutes; factor this into early tee time planning. Book directly through the course (booking@aquellagolf.com) or via specialist booking agents — the low-season rate (฿1,850 green fee, April–October) represents excellent value for a course of this quality and scale. Morning tee times are preferable in the hot months (March–May). Aquella's beach club access makes it an appealing full-day destination: golf in the morning, beach in the afternoon. The Platinum Paspalum surfaces play firm and fast — bring your low-flight irons and expect greens that don't hold pitch marks as readily as the softer bent-grass greens found on some other courses.
Location & getting there
Aquella Golf & Country Club is located at 157/12 Moo 9, Limdul Road, Thai Muang District, Phang Nga 82120 — on the Andaman coast approximately 44 km north of Phuket International Airport, a 40-minute drive under normal conditions. Visitors from Bangkok fly to Phuket (approximately 1 hour 20 minutes) and then transfer north by car. Grab is available from the airport; hotel transfers from northern Phuket hotels are the most convenient option. The course is also accessible from Khao Lak resorts, approximately 25–30 minutes south.
