Mountain Creek Golf Resort

27 holes · Par 36Designed by Seve BallesterosEst. 2011~2h from Bangkok

Mountain Creek Golf Resort is the only golf course in Thailand designed by Seve Ballesteros, the two-time Masters champion and five-time Open Championship winner. Located at Sikhio in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, past the gateway of Khao Yai National Park, the resort opened in 2011 with a 27-hole complex built around the dramatic terrain of the Lam Takhong reservoir watershed. Ballesteros divided the layout into three named nine-hole loops — Highlands, Creek, and Valley — each reflecting the natural character of its setting. The resort operates as a full-service golf destination with accommodation, spa, restaurant, and practice facilities on site. Both caddies and carts are mandatory and are bundled into round pricing, which simplifies the booking experience. The course attracts golfers seeking a signature-architect layout with genuine elevation change and forest scenery — a significant departure from the flat delta courses of the Bangkok region.

Layout & playing experience

The 27-hole complex offers three distinct nine-hole combinations, all playable as standard 18-hole rounds. Total yardage across all 27 holes reaches 7,615 yards from the back tees, indicating a genuine championship test. The Highlands nine runs across the elevated ridges of the property with panoramic views over the Lam Takhong reservoir and surrounding forested hills. The Creek nine is defined by its eponymous water feature, threading through riparian corridors with tight approach angles and a premium on accuracy. The Valley nine descends into lower-lying terrain with the widest fairways and most accessible scoring opportunities of the three loops, making it a popular anchor for first-time visitors. Ballesteros's signature design element — a large S-shaped bunker — appears on hole three, providing a visual trademark. Carts are mandatory due to the property's hilly terrain; the elevation changes that make the course visually dramatic would render walking impractical for most visitors. A driving range and practice facilities are on site for pre-round preparation.

Tips & what to know before you go

Book any combination of the three nine-hole loops — Highlands/Creek, Creek/Valley, and Highlands/Valley — depending on your skill level and appetite for challenge. First-time visitors typically start with Valley and Creek, saving the more exposed Highlands nine for a return round when the layout is familiar. The course is approximately 170 km northeast of Bangkok via Mittraphap Highway (Route 2) — allow at least two and a half hours including roadside stops. The resort sits above 500 metres altitude, meaning temperatures are consistently 5–8°C cooler than Bangkok — a major advantage during the March–May hot season. November through February offers ideal conditions: cool air, dry fairways, and uncrowded tee sheets on weekdays. Book via the official website or a booking agent at least one day in advance on weekdays and two days in advance on weekends.
