Happy City Golf Resort is one of Chiang Rai's most distinctive golf destinations — a 27-hole complex opened in 2012 that offers three completely different nine-hole experiences on a single property east of Wiang Chai district. The resort's three loops — Mountain Breeze, Lakeside, and River — each have their own character and difficulty level, meaning that repeat visitors can mix and match nines to create a new 18-hole combination on every visit. Green fees are approximately 2,000 THB on weekdays and 2,500 THB at weekends for 18 holes, with a 300 THB caddie fee and optional cart at 600 THB. The resort is Korean-owned and particularly well-regarded among Korean golf tourists, who make up a significant portion of the clientele, but it is open to all visitors and caters to a wide range of skill levels. The combination of scenic highland settings, variety in routing character, and resort-standard maintenance makes Happy City one of the best value options in the Chiang Rai golf lineup.

Layout & playing experience

Happy City Golf Resort's three nines each occupy genuinely different terrain, giving the complex a variety that few 27-hole resorts achieve. The Mountain Breeze nine is the most dramatic, featuring significant elevation changes and panoramic views across the Chiang Rai hills — power hitters love its combination of downhill par-5s and uphill par-3s, but the strategically placed bunkers and changes in lie angle keep mid-handicappers fully engaged. The Lakeside nine is the resort's most demanding in terms of precision: water comes into play on eight of the nine holes, with the par-3 seventh hole — whose green is shaped like the Korean peninsula — becoming a signature attraction in its own right. The risk-reward decisions on this loop are constant, as aggressive lines can yield birdies but errant shots quickly find water. The River nine was built within a natural valley alongside the Mae Kok tributary system, and its setting is the most picturesque of the three — the signature fourth hole features an island green with mountain backdrops, and the natural doglegs created by the river corridor add authentic course management challenges that no amount of course architecture can manufacture. Of the 29 physical holes on the property, two are always closed for intensive maintenance on any given day, ensuring that all 27 open holes are in peak playing condition.

Tips & what to know before you go

Happy City Golf Resort is at its best during the cool season (November to February), when Chiang Rai's highland climate keeps temperatures pleasant and the fairways are at their firmest and most consistent. The rainy season (May to October) makes the River nine especially lush but can cause waterlogging on the lower-lying holes. Book at least a few days in advance during Thai New Year (Songkran) and the December–January high season, when the Korean and domestic golf traveller traffic peaks. The resort is about 30 minutes' drive east of Chiang Rai city — a straightforward drive on the main highway to Wiang Chai district. Allow a full day if you plan to play all three nines. The clubhouse has a restaurant and adequate changing facilities. Budget approximately 2,000–2,500 THB green fee plus 300 THB caddie and 600 THB cart for 18 holes.
