Sai Golf Club opened in 2021, making it Thailand's newest major championship-calibre course at the time of its debut. Designed by American architect Bob Moore of JMP Golf Design, it transformed open rice paddies in Bang Sai, Ayutthaya into a striking links-inspired layout set between Bangkok and Ayutthaya. The course plays to 7,527 yards from the black tees — one of the longest public-access layouts in the country — with a course rating of 75.5 and slope of 137 that marks it as a genuine test for low-handicappers. Its modern design philosophy, large undulating greens, and open, wind-exposed terrain set it apart from the typical tree-lined parkland layouts that dominate the Bangkok region. Sai Golf Club is quickly building a reputation as the destination course for golfers who want a PGA-tour standard challenge within range of Bangkok.

Layout & playing experience

Bob Moore's design philosophy at Sai Golf Club is rooted in links tradition: open fairways, large humped greens with steep grass catchment areas, high-lipped bunkers, and minimal tree cover to expose every hole to the prevailing wind. The course has four tee options: Black (7,527 yards), Blue (7,116), White (6,426), and Red (5,569), allowing golfers to calibrate the challenge according to their ability. The greens are the standout feature — large, multi-plateau putting surfaces with significant internal movement mean that two-putting from the wrong section of the green is genuinely difficult. Several approach shots require precise landing zone selection to avoid leaving impossibly fast downhill putts. The closing holes are particularly dramatic, with the final few returning toward the clubhouse across open terrain with wind often a decisive factor. Caddies familiar with the subtle green contours are invaluable here. The course requires careful shot-shaping; fades and draws both have their place, as straight hitters can be left in awkward positions on dogleg holes.

Tips & what to know before you go

Play from the Blue tees (7,116 yards) if your handicap is in single figures — the Black tees at 7,527 yards demand precision that will frustrate mid-handicappers. The open, links-style terrain means wind direction is critical; check the forecast before choosing your tee. The greens demand local knowledge, so pay close attention to your caddie's read. Book well in advance for weekends as the course has become popular since opening. The course is located in Bang Sai, Ayutthaya — about 70 minutes north of Bangkok on Route 32.

Location & getting there

Sai Golf Club is located at 88/8 Amphoe Bang Sai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, approximately 65 km north of central Bangkok. The drive typically takes 70 minutes via the Vibhavadi-Rangsit Expressway and Route 32 heading toward Ayutthaya. The area is not served by rail, so a private car or Grab is required. Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport is approximately 45 minutes to the south, making it accessible for golfers transiting through northern Bangkok.
