For most visitors, a golf holiday in Thailand requires nothing more than a standard tourist entry — there is no special golf visa or sports permit. The key question is simply which entry pathway applies to your passport: visa exemption, visa on arrival, or e-Visa.
Disclaimer:
Visa rules change frequently. All information below reflects the situation as of early 2026 and is provided as general guidance only. Always verify your specific requirements with your nearest Thai embassy or the official Thai immigration website before booking travel.
The Three Entry Pathways
1. Visa Exemption — many nationalities can enter Thailand without applying for any visa in advance. Golf holidays fall comfortably within the activities permitted under tourist entry. Do not rely on any list you find online for exemption eligibility — check the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs website directly.
2. Visa on Arrival (VOA) — nationalities not covered by visa exemption may be eligible for a VOA at designated international airports including Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK). You will need a photo, evidence of onward travel, proof of sufficient funds, and payment in Thai baht at the counter. VOA queues can be long at peak times — factor this into your arrival planning if you have an early tee time.
3. e-Visa — Thailand's e-Visa system allows eligible nationalities to apply online before departing via the official Thai e-Visa portal at thaievisa.go.th.
Before You Travel
- Confirm your entry pathway at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or your country's Thai embassy
- Ensure at least 6 months passport validity from your date of entry
- Carry your return or onward flight confirmation
- Check whether your entry type permits re-entry if crossing into a neighbouring country
At the Airport
As of May 2025, the paper TM6 arrival card has been replaced by the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Most foreign visitors must complete this online within 72 hours before their flight — free at tdac.immigration.go.th. You will receive a QR code to present at the immigration counter.
Practical Tips for Golf Tourists
- No golf-specific visa exists — standard tourist entry covers all golf activities at public courses, private clubs, and indoor simulators like LENGOLF in Bangkok
- Travelling with your own clubs is common and generally uncomplicated; there is no duty on personal-use equipment brought for your trip
- Book tee times in advance — visa and entry logistics aside, early booking is the main practical consideration
