Frequently Asked Question

How Much to Tip a Caddie in Thailand

Tip your caddie 300–400 THB at mid-range courses, or 400–600 THB at premium resorts. Hand the cash directly to your caddie at the 18th green — not at the pro shop counter.

Quick-Reference Tip Table

| Course Tier | Tip Range (THB) | Notes | |---|---|---| | Public / municipal | 300–400 | Lower end of market | | Mid-range | 400–500 | Most common amount | | Premium / resort | 500–600 | Expected baseline at top venues | | Exceptional service | 700–1,000 | Great reads, lost balls found, extra effort in heat |

The Standard Tip Range

Most golfers playing mid-range courses leave 400–500 THB for a standard 18-hole round. This covers normal caddie duties: carrying the bag, cleaning clubs, advising on yardages, and raking bunkers.

At public or municipal tracks, 300–400 THB is perfectly respectful. At resort and championship venues, 500–600 THB is the baseline. Tipping is not legally required, but it is a firmly established norm — caddies rely on tips as a meaningful part of their income.

Mandatory Caddie Fee vs. Tip — They Are Not the Same

Almost every course charges a mandatory caddie fee (typically 400–600 THB) collected at check-in. This goes to the club — not directly to your individual caddie. The tip is entirely separate and is given directly to your caddie in cash. Budget accordingly: between the mandatory fee and the tip, your total caddie-related cost will typically be 900–1,200 THB at mid-range courses.

When to Tip More

Go above the standard range — 700 THB or higher — when your caddie delivers genuine added value: 1. Exceptional green reading that saves you strokes 2. Helping locate a lost ball in rough or jungle 3. Carrying extra water or snacks on a hot day without being asked 4. Handling a difficult situation calmly and professionally 5. Going the extra mile on club selection advice throughout the round

Practical Tips: Cash, Timing, and What to Say

1. Bring THB cash before you arrive — most caddies cannot accept card payments 2. Tip at the 18th green after your final putt, before returning to the clubhouse 3. Hand the cash directly — fold the notes neatly and pass with both hands or your right hand; a simple "khob khun krap" (male) or "khob khun ka" (female) — "thank you" in Thai — is appreciated 4. Do not leave the tip on the golf cart or in the bag — always hand it over in person

Group Rounds

Each golfer tips their own assigned caddie separately. If two golfers share one caddie, a combined tip of 600–800 THB is reasonable.
