Frequently Asked Question

Golf Shoes in Thailand — Do You Need to Bring Your Own?

Yes, bring your own golf shoes. Rental footwear exists at some courses, but availability is inconsistent enough that you should not rely on it. Packing a pair you trust is the safer and more comfortable choice.

What Most Thai Golf Courses Require

The vast majority of Bangkok-area courses enforce a proper footwear policy — dedicated golf shoes (spiked or spikeless), rather than running shoes, sneakers, or sandals. A handful of more relaxed municipal or resort courses permit clean athletic trainers, but this is the exception. If you plan to play multiple venues without checking each one in advance, assume golf shoes are required.

Do not show up in flip flops or sandals. You are almost certain to be turned away.

Spikeless vs. Spiked in Thailand's Conditions

Thailand's heat and humidity tip the balance firmly toward spikeless shoes for most visiting golfers.

  • Spikeless shoes: Lighter, breathe better, dry faster — advantages that matter greatly when temperatures regularly sit above 30°C. They also double as casual footwear off the course, saving bag space.
  • Spiked shoes: Provide maximum traction, which can be an advantage on courses that stay wet during the rainy season (roughly May–October). If you play predominantly during that window and prioritise grip on sodden fairways, spiked shoes remain a solid choice.

For most visitors playing a mix of dry and wet season rounds, a quality waterproof or water-resistant spikeless shoe covers both scenarios well.

Rental Shoe Availability — Do Not Count on It

Some courses include rental golf shoes as part of a package; others offer them at the pro shop for a small fee. However, stock is limited, sizing tends to skew toward smaller Asian fit widths, and hygiene quality varies. It is not unusual to arrive and find no shoes in your size. If rental shoes are your only option, call the course ahead to confirm availability and sizing.

Indoor Golf at LENGOLF — No Special Shoes Required

Playing on an indoor golf simulator at LENGOLF removes the footwear question entirely. The simulator bays are played on artificial turf mats — no shoe requirement beyond being clean and comfortable. Regular trainers are perfectly fine.

Packing Tip

Golf shoes are the bulkiest single item most golfers pack. Choosing a versatile spikeless pair lets you wear them to dinner, around the resort, or exploring after your round — effectively replacing a second pair of casual shoes.
