Yes — you can bring golf clubs as checked baggage on flights to Bangkok. All major airlines accept golf bags as checked luggage. On full-service carriers, your golf bag travels within your standard baggage allowance — there is no separate golf equipment surcharge.
Here's everything you need to know before you pack your clubs.
Are Golf Clubs Allowed on Flights to Thailand?
Golf clubs are permitted as checked baggage on virtually every major airline flying to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang Airport (DMK). They are not allowed in the cabin — clubs must go in the hold.
Golf clubs are not classified as dangerous goods or prohibited items. There are no special entry restrictions on bringing golf equipment into Thailand.
Will You Be Charged Extra?
On major full-service carriers (Thai Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific), your golf bag counts as one of your standard checked baggage pieces. There is no upfront sporting equipment fee or golf surcharge. You only pay extra if your total checked baggage weight exceeds your free allowance — standard excess baggage rates apply.
Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific have a golfer-friendly concession: if the golf bag causes you to exceed your allowance, you are charged at a flat 6 kg rate (up to 15 kg excess) rather than the full bag weight.
Budget carriers (AirAsia, Nok Air, Scoot) are different — they do not include any checked baggage in the base fare, so the golf bag must be added as a paid item at booking.
Weight and Size Limits
Standard limits: 20–30 kg per bag in economy; 30–32 kg in business/first. Most airlines will not accept any single bag over 32 kg. A typical setup — 14 clubs, golf shoes, balls and tees in a soft travel bag — weighs roughly 12–18 kg, within most economy allowances.
Do You Need a Golf Travel Bag?
Strongly recommended. Options: soft golf travel bag (1–3 kg empty, lightweight, padded) or hard travel case (5–10 kg empty, maximum protection). Most airlines require clubs to be adequately packaged.
Should You Bring Your Clubs or Rent in Bangkok?
For short trips (1–2 rounds), renting clubs in Bangkok is worth considering. Quality rental clubs including Callaway sets are available at LENGOLF (/golf-club-rental) and at most Bangkok golf courses. For longer trips, bringing your own clubs usually makes more sense.
Always confirm your airline's current baggage policy before travel — fees and allowances change.
